I have heard their prophecies and researched countless ancient texts to uncover the spell of which they speak—the ritual to purge the vile taint from my blood—but, if it ever truly existed, it is nowhere to be found.

Revelations

Leonidas walked along the unhallowed corridors of the Dark Tower, plagued by thoughts of demons and the restless dead. No sound or light penetrated the heavy walls. The ancient bricks seemed to trap time itself. Here, deep within the confines of stone and shadows, countless secrets remained hidden. The elder came to an archway flanked by sculpted angels of death. The winged skeletons stood eternal guard at the door of Brom's inner sanctum. Leonidas' eyes lingered on the inscription above the arch. Noctem Aeternus—a fitting epitaph, he thought, for one cursed to dwell in eternal night.

Inside the chamber, the Tower Lord sat at a table, lost in rumination. Leonidas entered and took a seat across from Brom. A single candle rested between them, casting a small halo of flickering light that struggled against the room's oppressive darkness. Several volumes of age-worn journals lay strewn across the table. One of the books lay open before Brom. The Tower Lord's eyes darted back and forth across the archaic, handwritten script.

Brom looked up from his book. "The Baron wrote these for my benefit," he said quietly. "He sought to shed light upon the Tower's mysteries, though many of his thoughts are difficult to decipher. At first his writings seemed beyond comprehension, but as I read them more and more, I began to grasp the messages he so desperately sought to convey. His revelations stand as a testament to his troubled mind."

Brom's eyes returned to the page before him and he began to read aloud. "I am lost. The scant periods of clarity come less frequently with the passage of time. It is now, during one of my fleeting moments of reason, that I find opportunity to chronicle my thoughts.

"Darkness has taken firm hold in my heart. It grows ever stronger with each passing day, eroding my will to resist. My time grows short. I know I shall not be able to uncover all the secrets the Tower holds. I have succumbed to the vile essence of sin that resides in the blood of my victims—tis a venom that corrupts my soul, dragging me further into the abyss. I can bear this burden no longer. I must find a successor, one of fresh untainted blood, to carry on this vigil. I shall pass on my legacy and guide him through my writings, granting him the wisdom of my discoveries and warning him of the pitfalls I have encountered."

Brom looked away. "The Baron spoke to me through these books. He shared his thoughts and philosophies, his passions and fears. I felt his pain as my own and have come to understand the man he was. Tis a sad and terrible fate he suffered.
